Can’t Expand E-LAN on OSN1800 Because of MAC Address Parameter

BACKGROUND DESCRIPTION

The MAC Address Learning parameter includes Aging Ability, Aging Time, Specified Address Table Capacity, Address Detection Upper Threshold and Address Detection Lower Threshold. These parameters are so important when creating E-LAN services, as the Specifying for the capacity of the MAC address table defines the number of MAC addresses that VSI can learn.

As we have an E-LAN that has management VLAN that needs to exist in all VSIs (causing a large number of learned MAC addresses in every VSI), when creating the configuration we need to set the capacity of the MAC address table as the highest value available in Huawei OSN1800, which is 65534.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

After adding the new VSI and setting the parameters of the MAC learning capacity, an alarm reporting that the service is partially succeeded occurs – the VPLS service status appears as Partially Deployed.

SOLUTION

After checking all the parameters of the VPLS and finding out that they were right, we come to change the value of the MAC learning capacity in the OSN1800 Type I from NE Explorer > Configuration > Packet Configuration > Ethernet Service Management > E-LAN Service.

The MAC learning capacity is a memory and so its size could be calculated by multiples of 1024.

We found that OSN1800 Type I can accept no more than 5 X 1024 = 5120.

After setting the value to 5120, the E-LAN could be activated and the VPLS got fully deployed

Also, we found that no OSN1800 (OSN1800VType I or II) can accept in the same board more than 3 different MAC Address Table Capacities at the same time.

That means if I have an E-LAN with the MAC Address Table Capacity 512, another with 65534 and another with 6666 for example, then I can’t add another E-LAN with a different MAC Address Table Capacity.
